The essential trio

We start with the basics: when you start climbing the trio "Harness / Shoes / Carabiner" is the first investment you should make. In the gym, having your own harness and shoes saves you money on hire and makes you more comfortable. For first outings outdoors, this is the minimum you need if your companion is already equipped with rope, quickdraws and a belay system.

Are you unsure about the correct shoe size? Exchanges are free in all Decathlon Stores ;)

Who is it for? Climbers into rock climbing or indoor climbing routes.

The budget? The cost? From €35 for a harness, €30 for shoes and €7 for a screwgate carabiner.

A rope

Having your own rope enables you to save money renting indoors, be sure of having a rope in good condition for easier belaying and to be self-sufficient during your rock climbing sessions.

To climb indoors, a length of 25 m will suffice but 35 m will make it possible to do longer routes. For single-pitch routes when rock climbing, use at least 60 metres.

Who is it for? Climbers on routes.

The budget? From €40.

A climbing bag

You are beginning to understand it, climbing requires a lot of equipment... The climbing bag is the "hold-all" which enables quick access to all your equipment thanks it its full-length zip. It is big enough to take your rope, climbing harness, quickdraws, chalk, etc. and can be easily carried with its handles and straps. It’s a bit like the climbing equivalent of Mary Poppins’ bag!

The advantage? Its shape and size enables you to use it as a cabin bag on a plane.

Who’s it for? All types of climbers: boulderers, rock climbers and indoor climbers of all levels

The budget? From €20.

The reviews? 4.7/5 “Bought to be able to carry my holiday gear, I loved this bag, lightweight, good design, but especially the long zip which is the only bag opening, sports bag style but with straps to carry it like a backpack or by hand with the handles.”

A true climbing outfit

A special climbing outfit, why is that? To avoid impeding the climber’s movements, to adapt to the equipment they’re carrying and to not weigh them down.

Our favourite: The hoodie sweatshirt with its double-zip closure to be able to open it at the bottom and stay warm when belaying!

Tight budget? Consider a headband, to avoid the hair going over the eyes when you don’t have free hands to brush it back.

Who’s it for? All climbers! Whatever your age, level or climbing environment.

The cost? Plan to pay €22 for the men’s or women’s hooded sweatshirt, €4 for a headband...

The hoodies’ ratings? 4.3/5"Cut close to the body, easy to move and climb, strong, it traps heat and dries very quickly. The quality-price relationship is very good for €30 but it becomes truly unbeatable at €22!"

A slack line

But what is the link with climbing? The slack line is the ideal tool for balance work, proprioception and concentration in a fun way without even thinking about it. Easy to set up for the rest time between 2 rock routes, or just to have a nice moment between friends or family.

The advantage? Compact and easy to take everywhere with its strap bag.

Who is it for? All climbers and acrobats, young or old.

The budget? From €30.

The reviews? 4.5/5 Very easy and quick to set up, enables you to get used to finding your balance in several ways and for each age [...] each milestone reached opens new perspectives and enthusiasms for young and old!”

Belaying glasses

Little known even among the most advanced climbers, belaying glasses are starting to break into the sphere and it’s so much better. It is for us the smart gift, to take care of belayers’ necks. Once tried, you won’t be able to do without them, you’ll thank us for sure!

Who’s it for? The belayer on single-pitch or multiple-pitch routes.

The budget? €20.

Léa’s opinion - ingenious backpack from Simond"I love climbing on overhangs, though the neck pains I get when belaying, I like less... With the belaying glasses, no more pains in the neck, and above all they enable me to keep all my attention on the belaying of my climber. I can 100% recommend!"
