Do not use this equipment without prior training or if you feel at all uncertain. You are also responsible for taking note of the updates concerning your equipment. Failure to respect any of the warnings may result in serious injury or death.

1 - USE

Simond ice axes are items of Personal Protective Equipment that act as a falls from height prevention measure covered by EU Regulation 2016/425. Anaconda and Mamba ice axes are technical mountaineering and ice climbing axes (type 2 ice axe). They are designed for mountaineering, ice climbing and mixed climbing. In the context of intensive use in mixed climbing (for example in dry tooling), we recommend that you always check the condition of the tool before and after each trip out. Equip your ice axe with a head guard and a tip protector for transport.

2-INSPECTING THE PRODUCT

Before, during and after use, check that the equipment is in good order:
- Check the condition and tightening of the pick assembly screws.
- Check that there are no cracks, sharp edges, distortions, corrosion, rust, wear or any other damage.
- Check the condition of the rivets.
- Check that the markings on the product are legibleIf you’re have any doubts about the condition of your equipment, or if your product has a defect, destroy it to ensure that it is not used again.
A more detailed inspection should be carried out at least once a year by a qualified person. After a serious fall, your product and all other equipment in the belay system must be withdrawn from service. The safety of the user depends on maintaining the product’s effectiveness and strength.

3-CARE AND STORAGE

Your product must be cleaned with clean water then dried with a cloth to remove all traces of humidity. When it has been in contact with seawater or a marine environment, rinse and air-dry your equipment. Rub the metal parts with an oiled cloth, to prevent corrosion on the bare parts of the metal. Wipe off any excess oil, especially from the plastic parts. Store your product in a dry, cool, well-ventilated place, away from light and any heat sources. Long-term storage of your equipment in bad conditions may make it unuseable. Avoid any contact with chemical products (acids, bleach, petrol, diesel, solvents, etc.) which may damage the product’s resistance. The original packaging must be used during transportation. Any repair or modification to the product is strictly prohibited.

4-SHARPENING THE PICKS

Sharpen with a soft file, never use a grinding wheel, which could heat and damage the heat treatment of the pick. Never attempt to straighten a twisted pick, as this could create cracks in the metal that would compromise its strength. The pick or ice axe must be scrapped when the first tooth is gone. (figure 4)

5-ASSEMBLY OF PICKS AND ACCESSORIES

To disassemble the pick and the adze or hammer, first remove the two No. 1 screws (Fig. 2) and then remove the two No. 2 screws (Fig. 3). To reassemble, proceed in reverse, put the two No. 2 screws in place, then the two No. 1 screw. Only use original SIMOND components. The screws are designed to be unscrewed and screwed using the ice axe pick (Fig. 2). There are three possible configurations: pick + hammer, pick + adze, pick only. (figure 5)
